Bringing L2beat to Bitcoin
A new initiative to bring the popular l2beat.com platform to Bitcoin
Welcome to The Very Good Bitcoin Club! We bring you the latest trends on Bitcoin tech, strategy, and culture every week.
In this issue we announce a new initiative to bring L2beat (incredible ETH L2 analytics and research platform) to Bitcoin.
L2beat for Bitcoin
by Bob Bodily
L2beat.com is one of the best tools to showcase the progress on Ethereum L2s. It has it all: overall summary for easy comparison, TVL across L2s, a comprehensive risk analysis for each protocol, and current transactions per second.
I’ve previously discussed with others in the Bitcoin space the need for an L2beat on Bitcoin, and it is finally going to happen!
We have two domain names (so far) to work with:
1. bitcoinlayers.io
2. bitcoinrollups.io
I like the Bitcoin layers domain because Bitcoin can’t verify validity proofs, so other than Lightning, we don’t have any L2s on Bitcoin right now. And we won’t have any true L2 rollups on Bitcoin until we upgrade Bitcoin with a few new op_codes. This makes layers feel more natural to me than rollups and could even include sidechains, meta-protocols, Lightning, rollups, etc.
Then bitcoinrollups.io might be useful to track the progress of rollup development on Bitcoin. This could include sovereign rollups, the path to more secure sovereign rollup bridging, and the path to upgrading Bitcoin with a ZK verifier.
While an L2beat for Bitcoin sounds amazing, it is still in the idea phase, and we can’t do it without your help!
I’m likely collaborating with https://twitter.com/BitcoinRollups, so go give them a follow.
Important: if you are interested in helping document Bitcoin layers, verify research, or create technical frameworks for Bitcoin layers, please respond to this email and let me know!
